Issuu is a publishing platform with an audience attached. Flippique is a tool that makes a file. If what you actually want is to hand someone a document rather than send them to a page, that difference is the whole decision.

What Issuu does better

  • Discovery. Issuu has readers of its own. A file on your website does not.
  • Repurposing — articles, social posts and GIFs generated from one upload.
  • Integrations with Canva, InDesign and the rest of a publishing workflow.
  • Statistics, lead forms and team workspaces at the upper tiers.

If you are publishing a magazine and want it found, Issuu is doing something Flippique does not attempt.

There is no plan that gives you the file

This is the honest headline. Across Basic, Starter (€23 a month billed yearly), Unlimited (€205 a month) and Teams (from €453 a month), no plan offers an HTML or offline download of the flipbook. What you buy is hosting and a link.

Two consequences worth weighing:

  • Other publishers’ content appears around yours unless you are on Unlimited, which is where “remove external ads” and “no reading suggestions from others” sit. Issuu’s cookie notice lists 87 partners for personalised advertising.
  • The link is the deliverable. If the account lapses or the plan changes, the thing your reader bookmarked is affected. A file on a USB stick is not.

Where Flippique is the weaker tool

Said plainly, because finding out after you have paid is how people end up asking for refunds:

  • No analytics, no lead forms, no custom domain. A file on someone's computer cannot report back, which is the point — but if you need to know who read what, a hosted tool genuinely serves you better.
  • The text is not searchable. Pages render as images, so nobody can select text or search inside the book.
  • Links from your PDF carry over on paid plans only. The free plan flattens them.
  • No hosted link. You get a file. Putting it online is your job — your own site, a USB stick, an email attachment.
